Abstract: Innovation is the essential driving force for the transition from extensive development to highbquality development. As a type of urban evolution, innovative city integrates knowledge economy and urban scape, with innovation as the core driving force. As innovation and entrepreneurship platform, the characteristic town can be regarded as the micro-space unit of innovative city. This research explores spatial planning methods of the characteristic towns, promoting high quality development from the perspective of Innovative City. By conducting a case study of Taoda Town, Fuliang County, Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, this research puts forward the spatial planning strategies for innovative characteristic towns, including focusing on the needs of innovative people whom planning creative spaces for, active characteristic industries by functional integration, and strengthen regional cooperation by linking regional innovative network. The conducts of this research provide reference for promoting the healthy and sustainable development of the characteristic towns.
